All-Britain Semi-Final

After winning the Glo-Herts County Championship, Western Gaels Bristol represented the county at provincial level playing in the Junior All-Britain semi-final against John Mitchel’s Birmingham. Birmingham had the home advantage, with the game being played on the brand new all-weather pitch at Páirc na hÉireann.

In what was a close game, it took a goal in the last few minute of the game for John Mitchel’s to claim the win. An early few scores for John Mitchell’s forced a massive performance from Western Gaels to get back in the game. It became an almost ‘score-for-score’ game once Western Gaels found their feet. With 2 points in it at half time it was anyone’s game in the 2nd half. Good team play from Western Gaels put them one in front on the score board with just minutes to go. Congratulations to John Mitchel’s who got the final say hitting the back of the net, despite determined defence from Western Gaels.

Well done to Western Gaels who won just their first county title this year and stood up strong to the challenge in Birmingham. It was fantastic to have the game live steamed for free on youtube meaning supporters from across the county could tune in to watch what was an exciting and competitive game. Friends and family who couldn’t travel to Birmingham supported from afar and lots of supporters back in Ireland got a chance to check out Britain LGFA for the first time.
